Our Disability, Deaf & Neurodiversity awareness training courses

We provide engaging, interactive sessions designed to challenge perceptions and build understanding around disability. Each session is delivered by experienced disabled trainers who share real-life insights and practical perspectives. With a maximum of 16 participants per session, our training ensures a personal, inclusive learning environment where everyone can take part, ask questions, and leave with greater confidence and awareness.

Disability awareness training

General Disability Awareness

Half day (in person £990 or online £935)

  • Understand the meaning and incidence of disability
  • Know the social model of disability and the implications of this
  • Recognise the barriers that disabled people have in employment and accessing services and ways in which these can be removed
  • Know how to communicate appropriately about disability and access requirements
  • We introduce different impairment types including hearing impairments, visual impairments, communication impairments, physical impairments, non-visible impairments and neurodiversity

Disability Awareness for Managers and HR professionals

Half day (in person £990 or online £935)

  • Gain a clear understanding of what disability means and be able to recognise both visible and non-visible impairments in the workplace
  • Identify common barriers faced by disabled employees and how these can impact recruitment, retention, and progression
  • Identify inclusive management practices that actively support and empower disabled employees in the workplace
  • Understand legal responsibilities under the Equality Act, 2010 concerning disability rights and reasonable adjustments
  • Understand the purpose of reasonable adjustments and be able to identify, implement, and review appropriate adjustments to support disabled employees effectively
  • Develop the confidence and skills to have sensitive, empathetic conversations about disability and workplace adjustments
  • Be familiar with the Access to Work scheme and how it can provide practical and financial support for overcoming work-related barriers due to a disability or health condition

Accessible and Inclusive Events

Half day (in person £990 or online £935)

  • Identify common barriers that disabled people may face when attending events
  • Know how to apply principles of inclusive design when planning in-person, virtual, or hybrid events
  • Recognise legal obligations and good practice related to accessibility
  • Know how to communicate effectively with disabled people about their access requirements
  • Know how to make reasonable adjustments before and during events to assist attendees with access requirements

Accessible Recruitment: Practical Steps to Disability Inclusion

Half day (in person £990 or online £935)

  • Understand the importance of accessible and inclusive recruitment for attracting and retaining disabled talent
  • Recognise common barriers that disabled candidates may face during the recruitment process
  • Know how to write inclusive job descriptions and adverts that are welcoming and accessible to all applicants
  • Identify practical, reasonable adjustments that can be made at each stage of recruitment, from application to interview
  • Understand legal responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010
  • Understand strategies to reduce bias and promote fairness equity in shortlisting and interviews
  • Know how to communicate appropriately with disabled candidates about their access requirements

Neurodiversity awareness training

Neurodiversity Awareness

2 hour (in person £800 or online £750)

  • Gain an understanding of what neurodiversity is and how common neurodivergent conditions are
  • Become familiar with the various conditions included under the neurodiversity umbrella
  • Recognise common misconceptions and myths related to neurodiversity
  • Be familiar with key terminology related to neurodiversity
  • Be aware of common traits that neurodivergent people may have
  • Be able to identify barriers commonly experienced by neurodivergent individuals and understand ways to remove or reduce them

Neurodiversity & Reasonable Adjustments: Building an Inclusive Culture

Half day (in person £990 or online £935)

  • Explain what neurodiversity means and recognize the variety of neurodivergent conditions
  • Understand the benefits of neurodiversity for teams and organisations, and how it can contribute to innovation and problem-solving.
  • Be aware of barriers commonly experienced by neurodivergent individuals.
  • Identify communication and leadership strategies that create an inclusive environment where individuals feel safe to disclose their access needs
  • Understand why reasonable adjustments for neurodivergent employees are important from both a legal and ethical perspective
  • Know examples of common reasonable adjustments which may be useful for neurodivergent people and practical strategies for implementing them

Deaf awareness training

Deaf awareness training – 2 hours

2 hour (in person £800 or online £750)

  • Understand methods to effectively communicate with deaf people
  • Use simple strategies to effectively remove barriers for deaf people
  • Know about common misconceptions about British Sign Language
  • Learn how Deaf culture is distinct from hearing culture, with its own values, norms, and communication styles
  • Appropriate and respectful terminology when referring to deaf individuals

Deaf awareness training – Half day

  • Understand the different types and degrees of deafness
  • Recognise common myths and misconceptions surrounding hearing loss
  • Use appropriate and respectful terminology when referring to deaf individuals
  • Apply effective communication methods when interacting with deaf people
  • Identify simple strategies to remove barriers faced by deaf individuals
  • Describe examples of reasonable adjustments in the workplace for people with hearing loss
  • Understand how to work effectively with communication support professionals
  • Recognise that deaf culture is distinct from hearing culture, with its own values, norms, and communication styles

Accredited Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness and Communication

Enhance The UK are a Signature approved centre and have a wealth of experience of delivering the Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness and Communication course.

 

  • 4 day accredited course
  • Provides an in-depth understanding of deaf awareness
  • 2 modules – one theory and one practical
  • Delegates must pass both modules to receive the full qualification

British Sign Language

Deaf awareness and very basic introduction to BSL course – half day

In person – £990

 This is a 3.5 hour course suitable for up to 16 delegates. The course will be delivered at your venue by an experienced trainer. By the end of the session delegates will:
 

  • Understand the myths that surround hearing loss
  • Know ways to effectively communicate with people who are D/deaf and hard of hearing
  • Be able to identify potential barriers to engagement and participation for people with hearing loss and ways in which these can be overcome
  • Understand the cultural model of Deafness and the importance of this when engaging with the Deaf community
  • Know that BSL is a complex language in it’s own right and the difference between BSL and Makaton
  • Identify good practice when working alongside BSL interpreters
  • Be able to greet someone in BSL

Introduction to BSL Course

6 hours – £1,540

Our introduction to BSL course will provide your staff with basic BSL skills to communicate with Deaf people.
It can be delivered either by a full day of face to face training at your venue, or by weekly 1 hour virtual sessions. They will learn how to:

  • Greet someone in BSL
  • Use fingerspelling to introduce themselves
  • Hold a brief conversation with a Deaf person
  • Recognise and apply basic grammatical structures in BSL

Basic BSL for the workplace

18 hour course – variable price

Our basic BSL for the workplace course will give your staff the skills they need to:

  • Greet and take leave of someone appropriately
  • Fingerspell names of people and places
  • Give and receive basic information at work
  • Give, ask for and understand information in relation to time, money and the calendar
  • Understand ways in which the structure of BSL differs from English
